Expanding green spaces
Stage 3 explores opening up more of Camberwell Civic Park for everyone to enjoy. We’ll work with local groups, landowners, and the community to find ways to create more green spaces and places for play, relaxation and community activities.
With around 7,500 new homes expected in the Camberwell Junction Activity Centre and surrounding areas by 2051, this stage is about more than new buildings – it’s about ensuring green spaces are protected and expanded as the community grows.
By planning ahead, our aim is to create a neighbourhood where people can easily access green spaces to meet, play and enjoy the outdoors.
Areas in stage 3 are owned or managed by other stakeholders. If the plan is adopted, we’ll work with the community, local groups and landowners every step of the way.
No changes will happen without consultation, and detailed designs will be created together to make sure everyone has a say. Working in partnership with local stakeholders is essential before any plans go ahead.
Long-term vision

An artistic impression
At the heart of this vision is a commitment to expanding and enhancing public open space, unlocking new opportunities for recreation, relaxation and cultural activation. Through strategic land acquisition, thoughtful design and partnerships with key stakeholders, the precinct will evolve into a premier destination.
The long-term vision offers a glimpse of the precinct’s future potential. Realising this vision will require a staged approach, with each phase building on the last to create a vibrant, people-focused place.

A peek into the potential future
We know tennis is important to the community. If a suitable new location is found in the Camberwell Junction area, the tennis facilities could be moved to create more public open space in the centre of the precinct.
No changes will happen without talking to the people and groups who use this space.
This artist’s impression below shows one possible way the tennis court site could look in the future, only if a suitable new location is found within the precinct.

Heritage walking tour
Come along to our heritage walking tour
Join us for a free walking tour exploring the heritage landscapes of Camberwell Civic Park. Led by Dr Christina Dyson, a leading landscape heritage specialist from GML Heritage Consultancy, this tour offers a unique opportunity to learn more about the stories and cultural layers that shape our local environment.
The one-hour tour begins at the front of Camberwell Library, before making its way towards the Basilica of Our Lady of Victories. From there, we’ll move through the existing laneway to Lower Reserve, before returning to Camberwell Library. Along the way, Christina will share insights uncovered through the recent master planning work and encourage discussion about how we understand, value, and manage heritage in our community.
This is an engaging opportunity to experience Camberwell’s civic and cultural places in a new light, with expert interpretation and lively conversation.
