LXRP includes new decking in its updated designs

7 April 2022

The Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP) has listened to requests from the community and Council for a widened Union Road bridge to connect the open spaces on either side of the rail trench.

We worked with you to develop an Urban Design Advice (UDA) document during our engagement and consultation in September, November and December 2021. This was an important document that helped us advocate for your preferences to be included in the LXRP’s designs of the bridge and new open space. This includes the approved 15-metre-wide deck across the rail trench.

We are pleased to see this new decking secured for the community. It will help to connect the north and south sides of the shopping centre and create more useable open space for everyone to enjoy.

After our commitment to contribute $2 million towards the cost of the deck, the Victorian Government has also committed to contribute financially.

We look forward to working with the LXRP on the detailed design for Union Road to deliver this great outcome for our community. Next steps include negotiations with the Victorian Government about who will be responsible and liable for this new asset.
