What’s happening

The Victorian Government is progressing plans to increase housing density close to Melbourne’s public transport hubs. In Boroondara, this includes a final round of consultation for Tranche 1 of the Activity Centres program, which features draft maps for:

  • Hawthorn station
  • Auburn station
  • Glenferrie station
  • Kew Junction.

The Victorian Government’s consultation covers:

  • proposed building heights
  • boundaries extending beyond the activity centres
  • key streets, linkages and public spaces.

What is missing from the draft is how the Victorian Government will address the additional demand for local services, community facilities and open space that growing populations will need.

How you can participate

There are several ways to provide feedback before the Victorian Government's consultation closes at 11:59 pm on Sunday 19 October 2025:
  • Attend a drop-in or a walk-by session

Drop-in session Thursday 9 October, Hawthorn Arts Centre, 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm

Walk-by session – Thursday 9 October, 668 Glenferrie Road, Hawthorn, 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm

Both sessions are run by the Victorian Government

Why your feedback matters

This is the last opportunity for residents to influence Tranche 1 of the Activity Centres program. By reviewing the maps and submitting your views, you can help ensure the plans reflect community priorities. When preparing feedback, consider raising:

  • the importance of protecting neighbourhood character and heritage
  • the need for infrastructure that matches population growth
  • safeguarding and expanding green spaces
  • investment in local facilities and services that support liveable communities.

What's next: Willison, Riversdale and Ashburton Stations
