Activity Centres

The Victorian Government is continuing work on its Activity Centres Program. Their overall goal is to significantly increase housing density in parts of Boroondara to allow more people to live here.


The program is divided into two stages:

Riversdale, Willison and Ashburton train stations

Consultation has closed

The Victorian Government opened Phase 2 of community consultation on its Activity Centres Program for areas around Riversdale-Willison and Ashburton train stations.

Draft maps, proposed building heights and further details of the government’s draft plans were available for community feedback. Residents were able to review the plans and provide submissions until Sunday 22 March 2026 via the Engage Victoria website.

Government information sessions were held in addition to sessions led by City of Boroondara planners.

Consultation has closed

The Victorian Government is progressing plans to increase housing density close to Melbourne’s public transport hubs. In Boroondara, this included a final round of consultation for Tranche 1 of the Activity Centres program, which featured draft maps for:

  • Hawthorn station
  • Auburn station
  • Glenferrie station
  • Kew Junction.


The Victorian Government’s consultation covered:

  • proposed building heights
  • boundaries extending beyond the activity centres
  • key streets, linkages and public spaces.
