Boroondara Reconciliation Strategy 2022–26
We are currently developing the Boroondara Reconciliation Strategy 2022–26 (the Strategy).
The Strategy formalises Council’s commitment to reconciliation in Boroondara. It outlines a 4-year vision and sets a clear roadmap for implementing reconciliation initiatives with:
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
- community organisations
- the broader community.
Reconciliation is an ongoing journey, which aims to bring together and strengthen relationships built on trust and respect between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the wider Australian community.
We developed the Strategy through listening to local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and organisations. This includes Boroondara’s Traditional Owners, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation. This helped us to understand the role Council and our community can play in the reconciliation process.
As the reconciliation process involves the non-Aboriginal community working together with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, Council also asked for feedback from:
- the broader community
- local community service providers
- local organisations.
This helped us understand their views and ideas about how to be involved and progress reconciliation locally.
We welcomed community feedback on the draft Strategy in late 2022. The Strategy is now being finalised and is expected to be adopted in early 2022.
