Background
From 6 June to 24 June 2024, we consulted our community on the proposed removal of the on-street parking restrictions along Markham Avenue, Ashburton, between Ambon Street and Victory Boulevard. These were in place during the constructiion of the Markham development.
We invited residents, property owners and people who are eligible for a residential parking permit to participate in this consultation. Thank you to everyone who provided feedback on the proposed changes.
What we asked
We asked for your feedback on the proposal to remove the temporary Permit Zone parking which applied between 7 am and 6 pm Monday to Saturday. Also to make the No Stopping, 7 am and 6 pm Monday to Saturday parking restriction on Markham Avenue directly west and east of Ambon Street apply full-time.
Changes to parking restrictions are made if:
- we receive feedback from at least 10% of people invited to share their feedback, and
- 55% support the proposed changes.
What we heard
We received responses from a suffficent number of eligible community members.
- 20% supported removing the Permit Zone / amending the No Stopping zone
- 80% opposed removing the Permit Zone / amending the No Stopping zone.
In accordance with our Parking Management Policy, we will change the parking restrictions only if 55% or more of all eligible responses support the proposed changes.
What happens next
As the proposed changes are not supported by at least 55% of participants, there will be no change to the existing parking restrictions. The times that these parking restrictions now apply will remain.
Vehicles with a valid residential parking permit are exempt from the parking restrictions. To find out if you’re eligible for a permit and how to apply, visit www.boroondara.vic.gov.au/parking-streets or phone 9278 4444.
