Background

From 6 June to 24 June 2024, we consulted our community on the proposed removal of the on-street parking restrictions installed along Ambon Street, Ashburton, between Alamein Avenue and Markham Avenue, for the period of the Markham development construction.

We invited residents, property owners and people who are eligible for a residential parking permit to participate in this consultation. Thank you to everyone who provided feedback on the proposed changes.

What we asked

We asked for your feedback on the proposal to remove the temporary Permit Zone parking which applied on the east side between 7 am and 6 pm Monday to Saturday.

Changes to parking restrictions are made if:

  • we receive feedback from at least 10% of people invited to share their feedback, and
  • 55% support the proposed changes.

What we heard

We received responses from a suffficent number of eligible community members.

  • 45% supported removing the Permit Zone
  • 55% opposed removing the Permit Zone.

In accordance with our Parking Management Policy, we will change the parking restrictions if 55% or more of all eligible responses show support for the proposed changes.

Current parking restrictions

The current parking restrictions along the east side of Ambon Street are:

  • Permit Zone, 7 am to 6 pm Monday to Saturday

What happens next

As an insufficient level of support (50%) was received to remove the parking restriction, the existing Permit Zone parking restriction along the east side will be retained.

We will also email those who clicked the “Follow” button on the consultation page.
