About this consultation

Community members have contacted Council about parking along Mary Street, Kew - between Cotham Road and High Street - in the evening and on weekends when weekday parking restrictions do not apply.

Council staff have responded to residents' concerns by carrying out parking surveys on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday, between 8 am and 11 pm on each day. These surveys showed the overall parking occupancy exceeded 75% on multiple occasions. This level of demand for parking meets the conditions to make further restrictions, as outlined in Council’s ‘Parking Management Policy and Procedures 2017’.

You are invited to have your say on proposed changes to these parking restrictions.

Current parking restrictions

There are currently '2-hour, 8 am to 6 pm Monday to Friday’ parking restrictions along both sides of the street.

However, on the odd-numbered side of the street, south of 23 Mary Street, the street is too narrow to permit parking. All residents and visitors in the southern section must park outside the even-numbered properties. This results in high usage of the parking spots on the even-numbered side of Mary Street south to Cotham Road.

Proposed changes

We now invite your feedback on proposed changes to parking restrictions.

We are proposing to introduce a ‘Permit Zone, all other times’ restriction to go with the current ‘2P, 8 am to 6 pm Monday to Friday’ restriction on the side with even-numbered properties. No changes to the 2P (2-hour) restrictions are proposed along the side with odd-numbered properties on Mary Street. You can select the dots to see this in the diagram below.

The proposed changes to parking restrictions are in line with our:

  • Parking Management Policy 2017
  • Parking Management Procedures 2017.
Vehicles with a valid residential parking permit are and will be exempt from parking restrictions in this area. To find out if you’re eligible for a permit and how to apply, visit our Residential parking permits page.
  • Who can take part

    1. People who are eligible for a residential parking permit for properties along Mary Street, between High Street and Cotham Road. We will accept one response from residents in each property. If we receive more than one response for your property, we will contact you to confirm your response.
    2. Property owners who do not live in their property.
