About this consultation

Community members have contacted Council about parking availability on weekends in the part-time Permit Zone areas along the east (odd-numbered) side of Henry Street, between Selbourne Street and Allen Street in Hawthorn.

We looked at the parking situation by undertaking several all-day parking surveys during 3 weekends in June and December 2025 and now want your feedback on proposed changes to the parking rules.

The proposed changes are in line with our:

Current parking restrictions

The on-street parking on the east side of Henry Street between Selbourne Street and Allen Street is a Permit Zone between:

  • 8 am and 6 pm Monday to Friday
  • 6 pm to midnight
  • midnight to 8 am every day.

Proposed changes

Parking surveys identified high demand within the part-time Permit Zone areas at times on weekends. Although the vehicles observed were parked legally, parking for residents and their visitors was reduced.

We’re therefore proposing to change these restrictions to:

  • Permit Zone (all times)

There will be no other changes to parking on the east side of Henry Street.

Vehicles with a valid residential parking permit will at all times be exempt from parking restrictions in this area. To find out if you’re eligible for a permit and how to apply, visit our Residential parking permits page.

Who can take part

  1. People who are eligible for a residential parking permit for properties along the east side of Henry Street, between Selbourne Street and Allen Street. We will accept one response from residents in each property. If we receive more than one response for your property, we will contact you to confirm your response.
  2. Property owners who do not live in their property.
