About this consultation
Community members have raised concerns about parking in the Permit Zone spaces along Torrington Street, between Burke Road and Parlington Street in Canterbury, due to the narrowness of the street and the high occupancy of the unrestricted spaces. Essentially, if a vehicle is parked in the unrestricted space, it is difficult for a vehicle to park in the Permit Zone space on the opposite side of the street.
We’ve looked at the parking situation and now want your feedback on proposed changes to the parking arrangements along the street.
The proposed changes are in line with our:
Current parking arrangements and restrictions
- South side: Permit Zone 24/7
- North side (between Burke Road and 15 Torrington Street): P2 minutes, 8 am-9 am and 3 pm-4 pm, School Days
- North side (between 15 Torrington Street and Parlington Street): Unrestricted
Proposed changes
We are proposing to formalise a section of the Permit Zone spaces by implementing a time-operated No Stopping zone on the north side of the road.
We propose to implement 'No Stopping, 8 am-7 pm, School Days' parking restriction on the north side of the street between 15 and 27 Torrington Street.
- This will improve traffic flow during school pick-up and drop-off periods.
- Community members with valid parking permits will have opportunities to park in the Permit Zone.
- The No Stopping zone will apply to everyone, including community members with a valid residential parking permit.
- OR Vehicles with a valid residential parking permit for the Permit Zone parking spaces will not be exempted from the proposed time-operated No Stopping zone.
