About the proposal
Amendment C404boro proposes to introduce Heritage Overlays over 5 individual places and 2 precincts in Burton Avenue, Wattle Grove, Wattle Road and Finchley Court, Hawthorn on a permanent basis.
This includes:
- 18-20 Burton Avenue, Hawthorn
- 2 & 2A Wattle Road, Hawthorn
- 48 Wattle Road, Hawthorn
- 63 Wattle Road, Hawthorn
- 82-84 Wattle Road, Hawthorn
- Finchley Court Precinct (including 1 to 6 Finchley Court, Hawthorn)
- Wattle Grove Precinct (including 1 to 7 Wattle Grove and 30, 32, 34 and 36 Wattle Road, Hawthorn).
Our heritage consultants have identified that these places have local heritage significance and are worthy of protection. We need to amend the Boroondara Planning Scheme to apply Heritage Overlays to these places.
Why are these places significant?
The Victorian Government has a list of recognised criteria we need to use to assess local heritage value. These are included in Planning Practice Note 1 – Applying the Heritage Overlay, which you can find on the Department of Transport and Planning website.
Our heritage consultant found that the identified places are of:
- historical significance.
- representative significance.
- aesthetic significance.
