We are committed to the protection, conservation and enhancement of all heritage places in Boroondara.

Our heritage consultants have identified that this property has local heritage significance and is worthy of protection. We need to amend the Boroondara Planning Scheme to apply a Heritage Overlay at this location.

Amendment C400boro proposes to apply a permanent Heritage Overlay to 86 Wattle Road, Hawthorn.

Why is this place significant?

The Victorian Government has a list of recognised criteria we need to use to assess local heritage value. These are included in Planning Practice Note 1 – Applying the Heritage Overlay, which you can find on the Department of Transport and Planning website.

Our heritage consultant found that 86 Wattle Road, Hawthorn is of:

  • historical significance
  • representative significance.

The submission period for Amendment C400boro closed on Monday 23 September 2024.

A Planning Panel Hearing was held on 3 March 2025. The Panel has now released their report and recommendations, supporting the proposal to include 86 Wattle Road, Hawthorn in the Heritage Overlay. A copy of the report is avaiable in the panel documents section.

Officers will now prepare a report for consideration by the Urban Planning Delegated Committee to receive and consider that Panel's report and recommendations.
