About the upgrade

We’re replacing the pavilion at Hartwell Sportsground to better support sports clubs and community groups.

The current building doesn’t meet today’s needs:

  • changerooms are small and include open block showers
  • there is no dedicated multi-purpose space for sports club and community groups
  • there isn’t enough storage for club equipment
  • there is poor accessibility in and around the pavilion
  • the building doesn’t meet our Development and Funding of Community Pavilions Policy (PDF).

A key focus of the upgrade is improving the changerooms so they are more inclusive for everyone, with better facilities for women and improved accessibility.

Project investment

We’re investing around $5.4 million in this upgrade.

  • Allows for renewal and relocation of the multi-sport court. Active recreation facilities, such as outdoor fitness equipment and a table tennis table, will be considered adjacent to the court.

  • A multipurpose space with an adjoining kitchen
  • An accessible public toilet with external access
  • A dedicated first aid room

Building footprint

The proposed new building has a total building footprint of 550 square metres, compared to the existing building footprint of 308 square metres. Although the building will be larger, the current pavilion has poor functionality and does not meet many requirements in Council’s Development and Funding of Community Pavilions Policy.

The larger footprint will provide the clubs with facilities that the current building lacks or does not provide adequately. These include compliant changerooms and umpire rooms, accessible amenities, storage, a first aid room, and improved multi-purpose and operational spaces. These upgrades are needed to meet current standards, improve how the building functions and better support sports clubs and community use.
