"The modern design for the pavilion."
We are upgrading the function room and change room pavilion buildings at Frog Hollow Reserve to create a new facility that better meets the needs of our community.
Thank you to everyone who shared their thoughts on the draft design for the new pavilion with us.
Due to the flood levels within the area, we have been advised by the relevant authorities that we need to raise the floor height of the pavilion buildings to comply with their requirements. The increase in the floor-level height means we need to add access ramps and stairs to the new buildings.
Updated artist impressions of the new pavilion design, incorporating community feedback and the increase in the floor-level height, are now available for you to view on this page.
We are currently working through the details of the final floor plan, including the ramp and stair locations. We will share the revised floor plan with the community once it is finalised.
In the meantime, we have appointed a builder and are waiting for them to confirm the timeline for construction.
About the upgrade
We have developed a design for a new facility that is accessible, inclusive and has improved functionality. It creates a better connection between the pavilion and other key features in Frog Hollow Reserve including the oval, playground, parkland, Anniversary Trail and cricket nets.
These buildings are used by sports clubs and community groups, including:
- Trinity Willison Cricket Club
- Riversdale Soccer Club
- Hawthorn U3A
- other casual and ongoing community group bookings.
Community consultation
In June and July 2023, we asked you for feedback on a draft design for the pavilion. We received positive support from most of the 46 people who provided feedback:
- 57% of respondents were supportive
- 13% of respondents were not supportive
- 15% of respondents were mixed
- 15% of respondents were neutral
What you liked in the draft design
-
-
"The path linking to the Anniversary trail."
-
"A more functional and accessible pavilion for the wider community."
What you wanted us to change in our draft design
-
"To keep and relocate the BBQ facilities and picnic table."
-
"To consider the colour of the pavilion façade."
-
"To upgrade the water station for dogs near the cricket nets."
-
"Dedicated bicycle parking areas."
The final design will incorporate the feedback we heard during community consultation by:
- keeping and relocating the BBQ facilities and picnic table, considering current flood level requirements with its new location
- using darker external brick and bluestone paving
- upgrading the water station for dogs
- installing bicycle hoops.
Updated artist impressions of the new pavilion design are available for you to view. The final floor plan will be shared with the community once it is finalised.
'Follow' this page to be informed when the final floor plan is released.
Pavilion design
- 4 new inclusive change rooms with unisex amenities and a retractable wall
- 2 new umpire rooms
- a first aid room to allow for better injury management onsite
- a new undercover spectator area
- a new multipurpose room
- a unisex accessible public toilet with internal and external access
- improvements to the kitchen and kiosk areas
- increased storage spaces
- upgrades to the external pavilion lighting for improved safety.
We have carefully considered the design of the upgraded pavilion to make sure it:
- supports our sustainability efforts
- increases accessibility
- complements the character of the area
- is a welcoming, inclusive and useful place for the community.
Trees
The location of the function room and change room pavilion buildings means there is minimal impact to the existing surrounding eucalyptus trees. However, there are 6 deteriorating eucalyptus trees we will need to remove. There's also one large eucalyptus tree in good health that we need to remove.
We will offset these removals by planting new trees on the site. We will also install protective fencing around all remaining trees within the construction zone.
Car parking
We are removing one parking space from the car park to create better pedestrian access to the playground and pavilion from the car park. The other 19 existing car parks will remain unchanged.
Floor plan
An updated floor plan will be released once all details are finalised, including the access ramp and stair locations.
