About the proposal

We are committed to the protection, conservation and enhancement of all heritage places in Boroondara.

Our heritage consultants have identified that Barrabool, at 508-510 Burke Road, Camberwell has local heritage significance and is worthy of protection. We need to amend the Boroondara Planning Scheme to apply a Heritage Overlay at this location.

Amendment C405boro proposes to apply a permanent Heritage Overlay to this place.

Feedback on Amendment C405boro is now closed. Council officers prepared a report on the outcomes of Exhibition which was considered by Councillors at a meeting of the Urban Planning Delegated Committee (UPDC) on 2 December 2024, which you can access here.

Councillors resolved to refer all submissions received during exhibition of Amendment C405boro to an independent planning panel for consideration. More information will be provided about the panel in due course.

Why is this place significant?

The Victorian Government has a list of recognised criteria we need to use to assess local heritage value. These are included in Planning Practice Note 1 – Applying the Heritage Overlay, which you can find on the Department of Transport and Planning website.

Our heritage consultant found that Barrabool, 508-510 Burke Road, Camberwell is of:

  • historical significance (criterion A)
  • architectural significance (criterion D).
