We're upgrading the playground at Burwood Reserve on Warrigal Road, Glen Iris, to:
- improve accessibility
- offer a range of play experiences for children
- ensure the playground is enhanced for families to enjoy into the future.
We expect to start building the new playground from the first half of 2025.

Community consultation
We asked our community for feedback through 2 stages of
consultation to guide the playground upgrade. Thank you to everyone who
shared their feedback.
First stage of consultation
In September and October 2023, we asked our community to share memories, stories and ideas to help shape the draft design for the upgraded playground.
Who we heard from
We received responses from adults and children, including:
- 24 responses through our online survey
- 12 people shared ideas, photos and drawings
What we heard
Features our community told us they wanted to see in the new playground included:
- a climbing net
- trampoline or bounce pad
- monkey bars and turnover bars
- a mix of slides
- shade.
You can read some of the feedback below.
How community feedback informed the draft design
The features our community told us they’d like to see most in the new playground were included in the draft design.
Some features our community told us they’d like to see couldn’t be included in the design, like sand play and water play.
For information about what isn’t included as part of this playground renewal, view our 'Questions and answers' in the right-hand sidebar.
Second stage of consultation
In February and March 2024, we shared the draft design for the new playground with our community for feedback.
Who we heard from
We received 26 responses to our online survey:
- 24 respondents were adults
- 2 respondents were children younger than 14.
What we heard
Of those who responded to our survey, 67% visit the playground at least once a week.
The play equipment proposed in the draft design which excited our community the most were:
- main combination play unit
- rope climb climbing unit
- carousel
- logs and boulders
“I like the gymnastic bars because they are different heights. The 2 sets of monkey bars are good too" – female, age 5
Many respondents also said that shade in the playground was important to them.
“Love the in-ground trampoline! And shade is super important. Love to have more local playgrounds with this installed.”
How community feedback informed the final design
Based on our community’s feedback about shade, we increased the size of the shade sails over the playground space in the final design.
Community feedback we received through this stage of consultation confirmed the design was on the right track.
