Proposed changes to South Hawthorn Tennis Club hours

South Hawthorn Tennis Club has a long and proud history in Boroondara. Located at Anderson Park in Hawthorn East, the club has over 550 members and provides a friendly and fun place to play tennis.

The club has requested an extension to the time they can use the tennis courts and associated pavilion areas at Anderson Park to:

  • support growing community demand
  • make the hours of use more consistent across all courts and in-line with other tennis courts in Boroondara.

Why we’re asking for community feedback

Before we make a decision on whether or not we will be changing the opening hours, we’re inviting feedback from nearby residents (one response per household). We encourage you to have your say.

Anderson Park has 2 sections of tennis courts

  • the upper courts 1-4 – closer to the Widford Street end of Anderson Road
  • the lower courts 5 and 6 – closer to the Henham Street section of Anderson Road.

The club’s proposal to make all tennis court hours the same would provide more playing time and simplify the tennis club’s rules and operations. Players of all ages and abilities would also be supported with equal access to use the lower, more accessible tennis courts (courts 5 and 6) which currently have varied hours.

The club experiences high demand for the 2 lower courts as they are on flatter ground than the upper courts, share the same elevation and aren’t separated by a fence. The proposed increase to the available hours of the lower courts to match the upper courts would also help to address this demand.

The pavilion and rotunda

To support the proposed court hours, the club has also proposed revised pavilion and rotunda hours. This is because court users also need access to toilets, court lighting controls and other facilities in these areas.
